Art of Observation Class - Extraordinary
Extraordinary week in the Art of Observation with Heidi Swapp. I am loving this class. If you ever get a chance to take one of Heidi's classes.... DO IT!. She has a great way of teaching you and making you feel like you're sitting at her craft table like a good friend.
This week's Theme...... EXTRAORDINARY
I made the Memory File, but haven't added photos yet. I haven't quite decided how I want to document "Extraordinary" in a photo sense. I've got a few ideas. I love Heidi's concept of the graduated layers of the mini book.
Here are some fun shipping tags I made to stuff in the pocket. If I need more space, I'll take the tags out and replace them with photos.
I made the Extraordinary shape file with the Silhouette. I used Heidi's idea from her Sugar Chic Collection.

Thank You Card
Holy Cow! I made a card! I have gotten away from my favorite part of scrapping and that's cardmaking. First I was in full blown tax season at work and by the time I had downtime, I wanted to sleep. Right after tax season I went on a trip for work, and stopped on my way back to see my brother and his family in California, all the while I've been taking the Art of Observation class with Heidi Swapp, so my spare time has been spent trying to keep up with everything including my Jessica Sprague obligations.... I know you can relate. Today, I took the day off just for some "me" time. The house is quiet, nothing but the soft hum of the dishwasher for noise. I went upstairs planning on straightening my craftroom up and instead I whipped up a card. It felt really good. Sometimes, it's the little things.
Hope you are having a great day!

Art of Oberservation - Week 7 - Life's Lessons
Here we are in week 7 of class. This week's memory file's theme is "Life Lesson". I used a Color Magic Memory file from Heidi Swapp's collection. All of the envelopes are random from my stash. I used my Silhouette to make all of the little flags and tabs. The "life lessons" was made by Heidi and she shared the png file in class.
Here's a closer view. I wanted light gray and light yellow, but once I misted the folders with Tattered Angels Charcoal it was quite a bit darker than I was shooting for, so I went with a more vibrant yellow to compensate. The vellum envelope contains "Mom was right". You know, all those things your mother used to tell you and you would roll your eyes - now that you're older you find yourself passing along the same advise?
Here's a close up of my "silly - kid" lessons
And my "Funny Life Lessons"

Each of the envelopes contain an insert with Lessons I've learned. Some are Silly like the ones below and others are serious. The mini yellow file folder contains my "serious" lessons as well as photos of the people in my life who have taught me valuable lessons in life.
This is the outside of the folder. I misted seam binding and sewed it into a ruffle right on the folder. Gotta love sewing machines and scrapping!!

Altered Clock inspired by Heidi Swapp
Do you watch Heidi Swapp's weekly show on My Craft Channel? This week her project was how to alter a clock. It was so easy! I love this idea! I made this one for my good friend. The photo is her two granddaugthers. I think she's going to love it.

Art of Oberservation - Week 6
Here is my book. It's full of those people (and my pups) that make me feel loved.
I really enjoyed this project. It was a lot of fun to make and a lot of great observances that I often take for granted.
It's yet another take on a memory file folder. So much fun.
I love the seam binding on the banner. So much fun!!
I cut all of the hearts with the Silhouette.
The little homemade journal book has all the ways my family and friends make me feel loved. I wrote a page or two about each of them.
Are you loving the Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic papers yet??? They are so yummy and fun!

Week 4 - Art of Observation - AMAZING
This week's assignment "What Amazes You". This is sort of a time capsule documenting what amazing you right here, right now, this week.
Again we used Heidi Swapp's memory file technique. This was a fun project. The right side of the folder is actually mounted on foam core, so the mini books sit down in little pockets of sorts.
I made a few elements with photoshop to go along with my Heidi Swapp files. I also used some BoBunny papers on my files.
Isn't this fold out album idea fun? I love it!
My top book focused on technology. I mean really who would have ever thought we'd use "Google" as an everyday word and think nothing of walking around checking for emails and making phone calls.
The flip side of my albums. Thanks for looking!

Art of Observation Week 3 - Your Song
This is our Week Three assignment. Create a memory file using your favorite song, or a song that speaks to you, or a song that just makes you happy. I chose You are the Sunshine of My Life by Stevie Wonder for my project. I used to sing this song to the kids when they were little.
Again we learned how to put a mini album inside the folder system. This one was just a slightly different technique.
I used my new Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic folders and made some elements with the Silhouette Cameo & Photoshop. I made all of the elements on this page. I bought quite a few of Heidi's elements that go with her line, but they are so pretty I didn't want to use them. I know.. I have issues.
This was a fun page. Heidi showed how to make an envelope pocket on the inside of a flap from a piece of manilla file folder, I changed it up a bit and used a vellum envelope and left the manilla flap off. I didn't want the manilla color in my color scheme. All of the elements on this page were handmade and cut with the silhouette.
This is my title. I wrote the SunShine on a piece of white paper, scanned it, then opened it in the Silhouette Software and traced and cut it. So cool.

Art of Observation Week 2
So sorry I haven't been posting much. I'm taking the class over at Big Picture Classes with Heidi Swapp, I've got my submissions for Jessica Sprague's Creative Design Team, and to top it off it's TAX WEEK at work, and I've had company at my house for the last 4 weekends. So I haven't had a lot of time for cardmaking. I'll be back!
This week's focus in our Heidi Swapp Art of Observation Class is Anticipation. For this class we are making a memory file to plan an event of some sort, later we will add the actual event photos and memories to the file. This was a fun challenge. Hard to scrap ahead of time, but in actuality, this portion of the folder will help me think about the upcoming event, what I need to pack, my travel arrangements, what I want to do while I'm there, etc.
I chose my upcoming trip (2nd week of May) to Pebble Beach for work and then a quick visit to my brother in Los Angeles. I can't wait!!
I'm hoping my Sugar Chic Collection arrives within the next day or two. I've been tracking it at Fed Ex and it seems to be stuck in Phoenix!?! It went from Tucson to Phoenix where it has sat for 3 days. I thought for sure it would be here by today.
I made some elements in Photoshop. It's pretty simple, but I always end up going back and blinging after the fact. It's just how I scrap.

I'm still waiting on my Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic things to arrive, so in the meantime I'm using these fun folders I bought at Staples.

The Art of Observation Class with Heidi Swapp
I signed up for yet another class. It's The Art of Observation class with Heidi Swapp at BigPictureClasses.com. The class is based on (of course) Observations. Learning to observe your world and not just busily pass through it. Heidi then shows you a fun new way to document your observations utilizing her new Memory File System, which is a way of scrapbooking in a file folder. It's so fun and inspirational. We just finished the first lesson and I believe you can still enroll through tomorrow.

This is my file folder. I have Heidi's new product line ordered, but it's not arrived yet, so I used what I have.

Here is the inside of my book. It's so fun. Very interactive! Heidi designed this cute mini book to go inside.

I made this using a couple of different digital kits. First were the papers by Splendid Fins new kit called "when skies are grey" and the brushes were by Pink Paislee called "Country Lane" both will be available soon at Jessicasprague.com. This layout focuses on Recolorization meaning that I made the photo black and white and then brought color back to just the roses. You can learn this technique on this weeks Photoshop Friday at JessicaSprague.com.

Digital Layout with Samantha Walker Cottontails
This digital layout was made using the Samantha Walker Cottontails Papers & Embelishments. It's such a fun and springy kit. I wish I had Easter Photos to plug in to the photo slots, but that was a long time ago. Someday there will be little ones around again, until then, you get last year's spring blooms.
